Great holiday skin is usually planned well before the invitations start arriving.
If you want your complexion to look clearer, smoother and more refreshed by Thanksgiving, holiday parties or end-of-year celebrations, fall gives you an ideal window to work with. Around 60 days allows time to address summer pigmentation, improve texture and support collagen production without rushing recovery before an important event.
At REAL Aesthetics + Wellness, patients often come in knowing their skin looks different after summer but are not always sure what has changed. For some, the main issue is newly visible sunspots. Others notice roughness, dullness or uneven tone. For patients also experiencing reduced firmness, the treatment plan needs to go deeper than surface renewal.
The key is working backwards from your holiday calendar and treating what your skin actually needs.
When Should I Start Preparing My Skin for the Holidays?
Ideally, around 2-3 months before your most important event.
This gives us time to assess your skin, choose the appropriate level of treatment and account for recovery. It is especially useful when collagen stimulation is part of the plan because those changes develop gradually rather than appearing overnight.
It also means treatments can be scheduled around travel, Thanksgiving and other commitments, rather than trying to fit significant correction into December.
What Should You Treat First: Pigmentation, Texture or Skin Laxity?
Before choosing a device, we need to identify what is actually making the skin look tired or uneven.
After summer, several concerns can appear together. Brown spots may become more noticeable, tone can look patchy and the surface may feel rougher. At the same time, changes in firmness around the jawline, lower face or neck require a completely different approach.

Treatment intensity matters too. A few post-summer sunspots do not automatically require aggressive resurfacing, just as significant textural damage may not respond as efficiently to a very light treatment.
60 Days Before: Should I Start With Skin Tightening?
If reduced firmness is one of your priorities, Sofwave is often worth considering early in the plan.
Sofwave is a non-invasive ultrasound treatment that delivers controlled energy into the mid-dermis, where collagen is found. The heat stimulates a wound-healing response, encouraging fibroblast activity and the production of new collagen. It is used for mild to moderate laxity in areas including the brow, lower face, jawline and neck.
The important thing to understand is that Sofwave is not a resurfacing treatment. It will not remove a brown spot or exfoliate rough surface skin. Its role is improving firmness and supporting tissue quality.
Results develop progressively as collagen remodels, which is why we prefer to allow several months before a major event when possible. There is little to no downtime, making it relatively straightforward to incorporate alongside treatments addressing the complexion.

45 to 60 Days Before: What Is Best for Post-Summer Pigmentation and Dull Skin?
For many Sonoma County patients, fall skin concerns are closely linked to summer sun exposure.
If brown spots, redness and uneven color are the main issue, BBL HEROic may form the foundation of treatment. BroadBand Light delivers controlled light energy into the skin, where specific wavelengths are absorbed by unwanted pigment and vascular targets. Over time, treated pigmentation darkens and clears, leaving the complexion looking more even.
MOXI has a different job. This gentle fractional laser creates microscopic treatment zones that stimulate skin renewal without aggressively resurfacing the entire surface. It is particularly useful for early sun damage, uneven tone, roughness and changes in texture.
At REAL Aesthetics + Wellness, BBL HEROic and MOXI can be performed back-to-back. This is useful when we are treating both color and skin quality rather than trying to make one technology address everything.
A common plan involves approximately three treatments spaced four to six weeks apart, although the number and timing of sessions depend on the condition of the skin.
For someone with relatively early post-summer changes, this may provide all the correction needed.

When Would HALO Be Better Than MOXI?
The difference usually comes down to how much correction the skin needs.
MOXI is well suited to early photodamage and patients looking for gradual improvement with relatively manageable downtime. HALO is a hybrid fractional laser and gives us the ability to treat more established damage.
HALO combines ablative and non-ablative wavelengths in the same treatment. One works closer to the surface while the other reaches deeper into the skin, allowing us to address visible damage while stimulating collagen remodeling.
We may consider HALO when there is more noticeable:
- Sun damage and pigmentation
- Rough or uneven texture
- Fine lines
- Enlarged pores
- Overall photodamage
There is more recovery involved than with MOXI. Redness, swelling, bronzing and a sandpaper-like texture can occur while the treated skin renews.
For patients planning around the holidays, that downtime needs to be factored into the calendar. HALO is a corrective treatment, not something we would typically squeeze in immediately before a party.

What If My Skin Needs More Significant Resurfacing?
When sun damage, wrinkles and textural changes are more advanced, TriBrid may be more appropriate.
TriBrid uses three wavelengths to address different depths of the skin. This gives us greater flexibility when several signs of skin aging are present at the same time rather than one isolated concern.
The important distinction is severity. If we are looking at a few areas of pigmentation and relatively mild texture changes, lighter treatments may be sufficient. When damage is more established, repeatedly choosing very gentle treatments can sometimes mean a longer route to the desired result.
In those cases, a more comprehensive resurfacing treatment may make better clinical sense, provided the patient is comfortable with the associated recovery.
Do I Need a Laser to Get Glowing Skin for the Holidays?
Not necessarily. For relatively mild pigmentation, congestion, acne marks or dullness, a VI Peel may be enough to create meaningful improvement without moving into laser resurfacing.
VI Peels use professional chemical exfoliation to encourage damaged surface cells to shed and healthier-looking skin to emerge. Different formulations allow the treatment to be adapted according to concerns such as pigmentation, acne, post-inflammatory discoloration and general skin renewal.
Visible peeling usually develops over the days following treatment, so timing still matters.
For patients with relatively healthy skin who mainly want to improve brightness and surface quality, a peel can make more sense than choosing a device simply because it sounds more advanced.
Can You Combine Treatments for Better Holiday Skin?
Yes, particularly when the concerns exist at different levels of the skin.
BBL HEROic + MOXI is a useful example. BBL targets unwanted brown and red discoloration, while MOXI addresses texture, tone and renewal.
For patients who also want to improve firmness, REAL’s Tight & Bright™ approach combines Sofwave, BBL HEROic and MOXI. Each treatment has a distinct role: Sofwave for collagen and firmness, BBL for unwanted color and MOXI for texture and skin quality.
More advanced resurfacing can also be incorporated when appropriate.
Combination treatment should not mean adding devices for the sake of it. If pigmentation is the main concern, we focus on pigmentation. If laxity is the priority, resurfacing may contribute very little. The value of combining treatments comes from addressing genuinely different concerns in a coordinated way.
What Should I Do in the Final Month Before a Holiday Event?
By the final few weeks, major correction should ideally be behind you. The focus now shifts toward allowing the skin to settle, maintaining results and avoiding unnecessary irritation. Depending on the treatments performed, collagen production may still be progressing beneath the surface even though appointments have finished.
This is also an important time for consistent sun protection. Cooler temperatures do not eliminate UV exposure, and protecting newly treated skin helps preserve improvements in pigmentation and tone.
If you have several events across November and December, tell your provider at the beginning. Your treatment schedule can then be built around the entire season rather than one date.
What Does a 60-Day Holiday Skin Plan Actually Look Like?
There is no single schedule that works for every patient, but a simple framework can help.
60 days out: Assess pigmentation, texture, laxity and the degree of sun damage. Begin treatments that need time for collagen remodeling, such as Sofwave, where appropriate.
45-60 days out: Start correcting pigmentation and texture with BBL HEROic, MOXI or a more intensive resurfacing option according to the severity of the concern.
30 days out: Continue planned treatment courses or combination treatments, leaving appropriate intervals between sessions.
Final few weeks: Allow the skin to recover and results to develop. Avoid introducing unnecessary aggressive treatment close to important events.
The exact plan may be much simpler. Some patients need one primary treatment, while others benefit from addressing several concerns over the full three months.
FAQs About Getting Your Skin Holiday-Ready
Can I have fall laser treatments if I still have a summer tan?
Recent tanning or significant sun exposure can affect the safety and suitability of certain laser and light treatments. Your skin should be assessed before treatment is scheduled, and you may be advised to wait until the tan has faded.
Should I stop retinol before a laser treatment or VI Peel?
Certain active skincare ingredients may need to be paused before and after treatment. The timing depends on the procedure and your current routine, so follow the specific pre-treatment instructions provided by your practitioner.
Can sensitive skin still be treated before the holidays?
Often, yes, but sensitivity needs to be assessed first. Treatment type, intensity and timing can then be adjusted according to how reactive the skin is and what is causing the sensitivity.
What if I only have four weeks before my holiday event?
There may still be appropriate options, but the plan will be different from one started three months earlier. Your practitioner can focus on treatments that fit safely within the available recovery window rather than trying to compress a longer corrective plan.
Can I maintain my results after the holidays?
Yes. Once the initial concerns have been corrected, periodic maintenance treatments and consistent sun protection can help preserve improvements. The frequency depends on your skin, treatment history and long-term goals.
Planning Your Holiday Skin in Sonoma County
The biggest advantage of starting your holiday skin plan in fall is not that you can fit in more treatments. It is that you have more choices.
With time, we can decide whether your skin needs targeted pigment correction, resurfacing, collagen stimulation or a relatively simple refresh, then schedule treatment around your actual holiday plans.
At REAL Aesthetics + Wellness, we work with patients from across Sonoma County to create individualized treatment plans based on what we see in the skin rather than following a standard seasonal protocol.
If you are hoping for clearer, smoother and healthier-looking skin by the holidays, book a consultation early enough to give your skin time to get there.
